R+P Post 11: Our Timeline and Storyboard

We started our pre-production by creating a timeline of our idea. This was done by sticking three pieces of A3 sheets together to create a larger piece of paper and writing down our idea into an easy to follow, chronological order. Doing this was crucial in ensuring our idea would fit into a 2-minute time frame as well as finalise any doubts we had. Since it was the first time seeing our ideas written, errors were easily found and discarded or changed.

After finalising our timeline we went on to making a storyboard. We did this by using three different colours of 'post it notes' for different framing, drawing on our shots in pencil, ordering them into the sequence of the opening and then once complete fine lined.

Doing this allowed our group to decide framing, duration, camera movement and the look for each shot and the sequence as a whole. This gave our group a better understanding on what the overall outcome would look at. It raised questions such as 'will our TA understand this shot?' 'will our TA understand what is going on?' 'are we revealing too much?'.

Yellow post it notes- Close up
Green post it notes- Medium shot
Blue post it notes- Long shot

Creating a storyboard has given us a basis of all our shoots, and let us immediately identify and change shots that will not work or will be too hard to achieve. This helped us finalise our idea as a whole.
